ORGANIZATIONS WE LOVE
There are many local and international organizations who actively work towards a more just and peaceful world. These are just a few of them. No organization is perfect, but these are out there doing the work. We encourage each person to get involved. “Think globally, act locally” is always a good way to start.
“A global moment providing life-saving care.”
Why we love them: We first heard of Doctors Without Borders through the OB-GYN who delivered our third child, who volunteered with them. Years later, the powerful images of Sebastião Salgado, taken while he was embedded with their teams during the 1984 Ethiopian famine, further opened our eyes to their impact. This organization has a proven record of over 50 years with humanitarian projects in over 70 countries. If you work in medicine, this is one of the most courageous and meaningful ways to serve.
INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITEE
“The IRC helps people affected by humanitarian crises to survive, recover, and rebuild their lives.”
Why we love them: Founded by non-other than Albert Einstein himself, together with a group of humanitarians in 1933, this organization helps refugees in over 40 countries and has great volunteer opportunities in many locations across the globe.
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
“to campaign for ‘a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments’”
Why we love them: since the 60s this organization has been campaigning for human rights around the world. It is governed democratically by members from over 60 countries and offers worldwide opportunities to get involved.
